10 Common Skincare Mistakes you are not aware of
Let's be honest beauties, one of our deepest obsession is our skin. But who doesn't want flawless skin? It is not just about being conscious about how we look, but nowadays looking great can be used to our own advantage in so many ways.
A lot of beauty products are available for us to explore and experience from all over the world. But even though we have all these glorious products within our reach and have the most precise skincare routine, it is not avoidable to do some mistakes on how we do our skincare routine. Have any idea what this common mistake is? Here it is.
1.Not wearing sunscreen
Did you know that the number 1 enemy of our skin is the sun? Not only you can get dark spots and sun damage, but it can also promote skin aging. As we are exposed to the sun's harmful UVB rays every day, you need something for protection. Use sunblock or sunscreen which has at least SPF 30 or SPF 50 like the Nature Republic Daily SUN BLOCK California Aloe SPF 50 PA+++++,= or the COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream. If you can have one with much higher SPF the better.
2. Over exfoliating
You can only exfoliate your skin only 3 times a week, doing it every day is a big no-no. Over-exfoliating will create tiny cracks in the skin barrier that lead to more loss of hydration and inflammation. A good exfoliating product should be able to remove sebum, blackheads and dead skins like the Some By Mi Bye Bye Blackheads or the Some By Mi Cereal Pore Face Scrub. If you have sensitive skin better to avoid exfoliating and use a gentle cleanser to prevent irritation. The Cosrx Low Ph Good Morning Gentle Cleanser is highly recommended for sensitive skin. The skin in our face is much thinner compared to the skin compared to the rest of our body, so we have to be extra careful.
3. Layering products in the wrong order
There is a correct order on how to layer your products to your skin. We always got confused about which one to apply first. Serum first before emulsion? Essence after toner? Always remember the golden rule when it comes to layering products. Always use first the product which has the thinnest consistency to the thickest. So after washing, toner first which has is the most watery consistency. Followed by essence, emulsion, serum/ampoule, face mask, eye cream then face cream. If you are still confused about which product to use first, get a set of skincare like the SomebyMi Snail Truecica Low pH Gel Cleanser + Toner + Serum + Cream SET or the FULL WHITENING SKINCARE SET (V10 Soap + Galactomyces Toner + Serum + V10 toneup cream). That way you will not worry yourself on how to properly use the products.
4. Proper Cleansing
Washing your face is not enough to make sure that our face is clean as there are sebum and dirt that water alone cannot remove completely. Especially if you wear makeup every day, double cleansing is a must. Double cleansing means that before washing your face, you have to use cleansing oil like Jeu Demeure Clearcell Cleansing Oil or Jeu Demeure Oil-like Cleansing Gel if you have oily skin. Balms are also good such as Heimish All Clean Balm or micellar water to break down make-up and other dirt.
5. Water Temperature
Having the right water temperature while washing your face can make a big difference with your skin. Start by washing with warm water to your face. Not only it will help to melt makeup and dirt, but it also helps to kill bacteria and open up your pores. Then finish off by splashing with cold water to close up your pores and for a refreshing feel. If you have super oily skin the Etude House Baking Powder Pore Cleansing Foam, for acne-prone skin the Somebymi 30 Days Miracle Acne Foam Cleanser is the best choice and for dry skin stick with a gentle cleanser such as Somebymi Snail Truecica Miracle Repair Low Ph Gel Cleanser.
6. Using too many products
For skincare, the more the merrier is not really merrier. Overdoing will also result in breakouts and irritation. Only use products that you really need, like using too much cleanser will strip off all the natural oils that your skin needs and using too much moisturizer will clog your pores.
7. Needs before Wants
Prioritize what your skin really needs, sometimes we use products that do not deal with our problems but more of what we dream of. For example, you have acne/pimples and you want to treat it but you also want to whiten your face. Deal with your acne first, treat it and then after, you can use products to whiten your skin. Using a product that does not deal with your problem will only make it worse. Also, there are ingredients for acne treatment like AHA BHA PHA that are not compatible with Vitamin C, which is also a type of acid. Combining those 2 products might result in a skin nightmare.
8. Check the Ingredients
If you have sensitive skin or have allergies, checking the ingredients is your number 1 priority. If you are in doubt just do a patch test or buy products in a small size. Not only you save your skin but also save money. Brands like Cosrx, Jeu Demeure and Laneige are best for sensitive skin as they are known for having organic, mild and safe ingredients.
9. Just riding on the trend
With so many influencers nowadays, we can easily encourage to try new things. Remember, we all have different skin types, what works on others does not mean it will work for you too. Changing your skincare is also bad for your skin. Our skin needs at least 28days to adjust with a product, changing it too often will not only damage your skin but also you will never find out what really works for you.
10. Lifestyle
Taking care of your skin is not only at the surface but also inside our body. There is no point in using the best beauty products if you lack sleep, not eating healthy or stressing too much. Eat right, have a healthy state of mind and avoid bad vices.
